Our Neighborhood
Podcast and Neighborhood Tours
The Riverside Avondale Historic District in Jacksonville, FL is one of America’s Great Neighborhoods and we’re eager to show it off! To that end, we’re debuting a walking tour with a twist—one that puts history in the palm of your hand. This informative and entertaining audio walking tour can be downloaded into your MP3 player and enjoyed at your leisure.
RAP’s inaugural one-hour, two-mile tour starts at the popular Riverside Arts Market, and guides listeners through a small slice of this large, beautiful and architecturally diverse neighborhood. The tour features some of Riverside’s oldest and most interesting homes—including a haunted house (shown here, circa 1874) that once played host to Mary Todd Lincoln, a grand Jacobethan mansion built for the owner of Maxwell House Coffee, and the erstwhile office of Leonard Skinner, the former coach who gave his name to Jacksonville’s most famous band.
